Lokanarkavu Temple:The three rock cut caves in the temple premises are artfully engraved with beautiful carvings and fascinating murals. The main temple, according to legend, is more than 1500 years old. The main deity here is Goddess Durga, Bhadrakaall has great historical importance. Thacholi Othenan, the legendary martial hero of Kerala, used to worship here every day. This is the only temple where a peculiar folk dance called Thacholikali is presented during festivals. The dance, performed during the festival resembles the martial art Kalarippayattu. Even today, all Kalarippayattu heroes  seek the blessings of the deity before their debut. Other two shrines are dedicated to the gods Vishnu and Shiva.

Kozhikode

Kozhikode : Kozhikode also known as Calicut was the capital of the kingdom of the powerful Zamorins (Samoothiri). Karipur airport is 25 kms south of Kozhikode city. This city well connected to all the major cities in Kerala and other parts of India by excellent road and rail networks. The backwaters of Kozhikode hold great promises of enchanting holiday options. Vasco da Gama, the Portuguese explorer discovered the sea route to India, was first received by the Zamorinat Kappad beach in this palace in May1498. A monument has been built to commemorate his historical arrival. It is the 3rd largest city in Kerala and second largest urban aggloramation in kerala. Historical records show that the Calicut maintained close commercial relations with Arabs, Jews, Romans and even the Chinese.

Major Tourist Attractions

MananchiraMaidan : The palace tank of King Mana-Vikrama is an excellent architectural wonder. The musical fountain inside the maidan and the beautiful landscaped lawns surrounded by traditional buildings in the Kerala style, fascinate visitors.

Kozhikode Beach: This beach is a favorite haunt of sunset viewers. Adding to its natural beauty is the old world charm retained in the lighthouse and the two crumbling piers, each more than a hundred years old run into the sea. Entertainment facilities such as the lions Park for children and the marine water aquarium are added recreation facilities.

Dolphin's Point : In the early hours of the morning dolphins playing in the sea could be seen here.

Pazhassiraja Museum and Art Gallery: The museum contains ancient murals, antique bronzes, old coins, excavated earthenware, models of temples, megalithic monuments, umbrella stones etc. Adjacent to the museum is the Art Gallery, which exhibits an excellent collection of paintings by Raja Ravi Varma and Raja Raja Varma.

Beypore Port :Located at the mouth of the Chaliyar river, one of the prominent ports and fishing harbors of ancient Kerala, Beypore Port was an important trade and maritime centre. The boat-building yard here is famous for the construction of the Uru (the Arabian trading vessel), boasts a tradition of almost 1500 years.

Kappad : This is the historic beach where Vasco da Gama landed on the27th of May 1498, with 170 men in three vessels. A monument on the beach commemorates this historic event. The rock-studded beach is locally known as Kappakadavu. An interesting feature of the landscape is the sprawling rock that protrudes into the sea. A temple on the rock is believed to be 800 years old.

Kakkayam : This picturesque dam site, teeming with exotic wildlife, offers excellent trekking and rock climbing opportunities.

Peruvannamuzhi Hill :The reservoir here provides facilities for speed and row boat cruises during which one can see the Smarakathottam - a garden built in memory of the freedom fighters of the region. Uninhabited islands, the bird sanctuary and a crocodile farm add to the charm of the place.

Vadakara : Vadakara is known as the birth place of Thacholi Othenan - the legendary hero of the Vadakkanpattu (ballads of North Malabar), Vadakara boasts a great martial tradition and was a flourishing trade and commerce centre in ancient times.
